Narrative
Juan Ramon Hernandez earned a BSE in Aerospace Engineering in 1997 and went to work at Boeing, where a design tolerance is not a bug ticket and root-cause analysis is a professional obligation rather than a retrospective ritual. That is where the habits started: read the whole system, document everything, never accept a symptom as an explanation.
He wanted to work on people rather than airframes. He earned a second bachelor’s degree in biology in 2004 and entered the University of Arizona College of Medicine in 2006, completing clinical rotations in emergency medicine, general surgery, internal medicine, pediatrics, family medicine, and radiology. Emergency medicine was the target — the specialty built entirely around making high-stakes decisions with incomplete information under time pressure.
The 2008 financial crisis arrived in the middle of it. He chose his family, and spent the next several years rebuilding — including roughly a decade owning and operating a real estate services business through the worst housing market in living memory. Payroll, customers, margin, and the specific education that comes from running a service business when the numbers stop cooperating.
In 2014 he entered healthcare technology, and has advanced through four progressively senior roles: Senior Solutions Engineer, Solutions Architect, Senior Consumer Product Analyst, and now Senior Technical Product Analyst. He supports Epic MyChart and the digital front door that patients use to schedule, message, pay, and reach their care.
The through-line is not a technology. Aerospace taught him how to think. Medicine clarified why it mattered. Owning a business taught him what things actually cost. Healthcare technology showed him where large organizations break — and that the breaks are almost never technical. They sit between teams, between vendors, between systems: visible to everyone, owned by no one.
That gap is the work.
